Strata Life – Striving for a more professional Strata Sector.
As a member of Strata Community Association (SCA NSW) the foremost professional body in the Strata Industry, Strata Life are proud to advise that the NSW Government under the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, Kevin Anderson, and the Professional Standards Council of NSW have approved a Professional Standards Scheme.
This formal recognition by the NSW Government is the first of its kind for the property services sector in Australia and an exciting time as a long term member of Strata Community Association (SCA) (NSW). The scheme has been approved for an initial period of 5 years and commenced on 1 July 2021.
The scheme is a further commitment to ensuring high professional standards across the strata industry in NSW. This is also in line with various other initiatives across NSW, including the NSW Government plan to rebuild the construction sector and restore confidence and professionalism.
There are only 17 Professional Standard Schemes in Australia so SCA(NSW) joins elite company such as the Law Society of NSW and CPA Australia.
In practical terms, the Scheme will protect consumers by requiring higher professional standards and practices for those who participate in the Professional Standards Scheme. SCA NSW will be responsible to regulate its members (including Strata Life) to ensure we uphold these standards. This will be achieved through education, guidance, monitoring and enforcement. The scheme focuses on improving the professionalism of strata managers through self-regulation initiatives, ongoing professional development, and a robust code of conduct.
What does this mean for our current and future customers?
The professional Standards Scheme means Strata Life, a proud member of SCA (NSW), must adhere to a Code of Ethics including professional standards, which is monitored by Professional Standards Australia.
The Professional Standards Scheme will bring a range of benefits to our customers, including:
- The SCA (NSW) will oversee and self-regulate the conduct of all members within a structured professional framework.
- In addition to our internal complaints handling process, the Professional Standards Scheme brings a further robust and independent complaints handling process, ensuring clients can be assured of an independent review and response.
- An increase in Continual Professional Development (CPD) requirements for Strata Managers and Licensee’s in Charge, ensuring the industry remains up to date, educated and aware of their on-going responsibilities.
Strata Life is committed to supporting the strata industry, contributing to the overall improvement, and providing an excellent customer experience. The introduction of the Professional Standards Scheme will assist us in meeting these goals for our customers and the industry.
If you have any questions regarding the Professional Standards Scheme, please contact Robert Fothergill on 02 9456 9917 or SCA (NSW) on 02 9492 8200. Alternatively, further details are available at www.psc.gov.au.
About Strata Life – Strata Management Services
At Strata Life we strive to take the pressure of the day to day running of a strata scheme off of the shoulders of the committee members and owners. Whilst the nature of strata itself does mean that the owners/ committee are responsible for the decisions, the pressure is reduced by having a proactive manager provide guidance with a plain sense approach and quickly actioning issues as they arise.
We appreciate Committee members often have full time jobs and busy lives. Add to this that the strata scheme is often your home where Committee members do not want to have to police other residents.
Our aim is to minimise the work and time where we can, take on the role of reminding owners and residents of the by-laws so that everyone can peacefully enjoy community living.
Our team has extensive experience with properties on the Upper North Shore, Hornsby and the Northern Beaches areas, with excellent local contractors and superior local knowledge.
